Crystal Boone has been named Director for the Cortland Foundation after serving on the organization’s board of directors for the past two years.
Boone brings a wealth of management and non-profit experience to the position and a strong knowledge of the local community and region. She stepped into the leadership position on Oct. 18.
“We are excited to have Crystal lead the Cortland Foundation, overseeing the vital work of securing resources to enhance the health and well-being of the Cortland Acres community,” said Beth Clevenger, administrator of Cortland Acres. “Crystal has a great passion and has been a demonstrated leader in her current role at Cortland Acres with a strong organizational, marketing, and fundraising background.”
Boone manages the dining room and gift shop at the skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility. She is excited about her new role and is gearing up for her first fundraising campaign event for the Cortland Foundation on this year’s Giving Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2022.
“I look forward to continuing to build the Cortland Foundation’s successful programs and projects,” Boone said. “This year on Giving Tuesday, the Cortland Foundation is launching a campaign to support the construction of an all-weather canopy outside the entrance to the Cortland Acres Rehabilitation Center.”
Donations can be sent to the Cortland Foundation, Attn: Crystal Boone, 39 Cortland Acres Lane, Thomas, WV 26292. For additional information about Giving Tuesday or the Cortland Foundation, call Boone at 304-463-4181 or email cboone@cortlandacres.org.
Boone replaces Dan Bucher, who will continue to serve as the Cortland Acres Development Director, focusing on the Vision 2030 project. Boone said she looks forward to guiding the Cortland Foundation’s growth.
“It is a tremendous honor to lead an organization that values people and is committed to enhancing the Cortland Acres campus and the surrounding Tucker County community,” Boone said. “Through the generosity of our donors, the Cortland Foundation truly makes a difference in the lives of our residents and staff.”
As for priorities, Boone plans to continue Cortland Foundation’s involvement in the Neighborhood Investment Program (NIP) and support the music program and the annual photography exhibition.
“One of the first things I plan to do is learn about the needs and wishes of the residents at Cortland, as well as the residents living at The Pines and Pineview Apartments,” Boone said. “I want to understand and examine their needs and what can be done to help the community. By focusing on the Foundation’s strategic goals and working with our staff and board members, we can grow the programs and increase the positive impacts.”
Sponsored by the Cortland Foundation, the seasonal tradition Cortland’s Christmas Carols & Cookies is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 19. Boone said that information about how people can pre-order the delicious Christmas cookies will be announced soon.
Boone also serves as a board member for the Tucker Community Foundation and is the president of her church council.
The Cortland Acres campus includes a 94-bed long-term care facility, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation and programs, rental apartments in Pineview, and garden and patio homes in The Pines. For more information, visit www.cortlandacres.org or call 304-463-4181.
