Cortland Acres proudly announces the graduation of four dedicated students from its Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program. Over the past five weeks, Katrina Harsh, Marybeth Reed, Stacey Roy, and Joshalynn Henline have successfully completed the program, which includes three weeks of online coursework and 55 hours of on-site clinical training.

The program, designed to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge needed for a career in long-term care, was met with enthusiasm by the participants. The students noted that the five weeks flew by, especially with the engaging and well-structured curriculum. They particularly praised the online portion of the course for its user-friendly interface and the way it was broken down into manageable steps. "It was easy to maneuver and really helped us build a strong foundation before stepping into the clinical environment," one student commented.

Each student brought a unique story to the program, highlighting their passion for the field. Joshalynn, who has always loved helping people, shared her ambition: "After gaining experience as a CNA, I plan to continue my education and become a nurse." Marybeth, who began working at Cortland Acres about a year ago as a server in the dining room, decided she wanted a more hands-on role with the residents. "I took the CNA class because I want this to be my career, the one I’ll retire from," she said.

Stacey, who spent years at home raising her children, reflected on her decision to start a career: "I was lucky to be able to stay home with my kids, but now I want to start a career where I can make a difference." Meanwhile, Katrina found her calling while still in school, where she often helped elderly folks in her community. "That experience opened my eyes to the needs in the medical field and led me here," she explained.

At the graduation ceremony, Nikki Nelson, RN, BSN, Staff Development Coordinator and Clinical Instructor at Cortland Acres, addressed the graduates, acknowledging the challenges and rewards of the CNA role. “Being a CNA is one of the hardest jobs in long-term care, but it is also one of the most rewarding. I am truly grateful that you chose to take this class with us at Cortland Acres, and I wish you all the success in your careers here.”

Cortland Acres’ Director of Nursing, Robin Eye, said, “These graduates have shown exceptional dedication and compassion throughout their training. Their commitment to our residents and to the field of long-term care is inspiring, and we are excited to see the positive impact they will continue to make at Cortland Acres.”

The graduates are now prepared to bring their skills and compassion to their roles at Cortland Acres, where they will continue to provide quality care to residents.
