One of the only facilities in the area to offer wound care, Cortland Acres has a Certified Wound Specialist on Staff.  Dr. A. Franklin Hemphill, M.D., CWSP joined the medical staff at Cortland Acres in the fall of 2019.

Dr. Hemphill is available on a consulting basis to evaluate residents who suffer from a variety of wounds, which are often problematic, particularly in geriatric patients.

Wound specialists are health care professionals who have been trained in the care and treatment of all types of wounds, both acute and chronic. They evaluate and treat non-healing wounds; most commonly sustained from an injury, surgery, diabetes and pressure sores.

At Cortland, an interdisciplinary approach is considered important in the prevention, care and treatment of acute and chronic wounds. Chronic wounds include those secondary to pressure, arterial disease, venous insufficiency, and diabetes. Wound specialists are certified through the American Academy of Wound Management.
